David and Sarah were "crushing it" on paper. They both had demanding, successful careers. Their kids were in three different travel sports leagues. They were heavily involved in their church and neighborhood. Their calendar was a masterpiece of color-coded efficiency.
But they hadn't sat on the couch together at 8 PM in four months. They were starving to death efficiently.
They thought they needed better "time management." But time management is just the art of packing more things into the same box. What they actually needed was a violent, structural purge. They needed to learn how to say 'No' to perfectly good things in order to save the best thing.
Margin is not something you find. It is something you create by violently defending a boundary. The world will gladly spend every hour you have if you let it.
You have to stop apologizing for protecting your peace. You have to stop feeling guilty for saying no to the bake sale, the extra shift, or the third sport. A rested, connected, empathetic marriage is worth infinitely more than a perfectly optimized calendar.
